Coffee O'Clock Tuesdays - The Great Coffee Accompaniment
One of my favourite characters from Project Lemon Zest is Dave Stokes and Maggie Fuller. Both characters have featured in both my earlier books, Lemon Zest and Limoncello.
# 23: The Bonfire (Lemon Zest): Football was the only real love in Dave Stokes life and tonights meeting of two European giants: Real Madrid versus AC Milan was tipped to be an epic encountered. Football mad Dave was gutted when his boss asked him to stop behind to burn some important documents.
# 32: African Grey (Limoncello): Football mad Dave loves to talk and didn’t think life could get any worse after he accidentally burned down the warehouse where he worked, but …
# 57: Meals on Wheels (Limoncello): After he accidentally burning down the warehouse where he worked, Dave thought he would never find another steady job. Despite this little set back, he landed a cushy little number new company delivering meals on wheels to old peoples homes.
Dave and Maggie are based on real life people and became a great inspiration for me during my 30 short stories in 30 days challenge during lockdown. They featured in no more that four stories:
#62 Unprecedented (Lemondemic): Football mad Dave gives up drinking for season ticket but finds a creative way to get his drink on with his latest little venture.
#72 Normal (Lemondemic): Football mad Dave’s culinary venture comes to end when a person dies in a restaurant.
#83 Mastermind (Lemondemic) Football mad Dave bounces back after joining a mastermind. Maggie, his partner, was enjoying the new passionate Dave and never considered asking about his new venture.
#86 Downloading (Lemondemic): Football mad Dave new venture has gone bad. The Police have seized his computer and Maggie, his partner, had all but thrown him out on the street.
Now, the story of this complex relationship has become a series in Project Lemon Zest writing project. Maggie never looks forward to her coffee mornings with the ladies as she feels she has to defend herself whenever her Dave is the topic of conversation.
Dave never seems to have much luck on the job scene. This all started when he accidentally burned down a warehouse. Since, finding the right job has proved to be tough and his misfortune has, at times, been at the cost someone else. Disasters seem to follow Dave whatever he tries.
Writing stories for this series has allowed me to explore how to illuminate the other less significant characters in each story, namely, the ladies; Brenda Gilles and Doreen Cartwright.
