In the spirit of taking action today, simply use this forward moving 5 minutes episode to get something done on your “I get to” list. And do it on your own terms. Let me share a brief story…
When I was younger, I was not a fan of being told what to do and when to do it.
“Homework is due on Thursday” or “Finish your chores before you go out and play”
Ugh… barf … It all felt so restrictive.
And as I grew up into an adult, it turned into
“You should do fitness this way!” or “This is the best way to run your business!”
And I got that same feeling from when I was a little kid of being told what to do, and if I didn’t do it that way, some horrible consequence would befall me. eye roll I began to learn that there are a multitude of ways to do things. I learned that I get to choose how I do things. I get to try one way and see if it works for me. And if it doesn’t, sweet, I get to try another way! It took a while for me to figure out the things that work best for me and guess what, I am still learning! I get to test and re-test all kinds of methods to see how I like to do things.
And I know it can be confusing! There are too many messages out there. All kinds of people are trying to get you to do it their way.
“I’m an expert in this and this is why you should listen to me!”
“My way is the best way, so you should do it my way.”
And… on one hand they are correct. Their way IS the best way, but only for 1 specific person, them!
You could take that same sentiment and apply it to yourself. So in the context of taking action on anything, a personal project, your business, your health… anything, here are some guiding questions and thoughts.
What are the things that have worked really well for you? NO MATTER what anyone else has said.
What is not working well for you?
What have you learned from the ways that are not working for you?
What would you like to try and see if it works well for you?
How can you implement and take action in the way that works best for you?
Check in with your energy, what would feel best to get done first, even if it’s not the most important thing. Maybe it would feel good to do some simple things first, and gather some momentum and motivation for the bigger more important things on your list! Or make it random and fun!
