Red Geometry

Feb 27, 2021

Got down with laying tape on this last piece! I saw a similar print to this using shades of blue which made me want to paint some distinct geometry. However, the acrylics and painters tape didn't play too well together for me. The colors liked to get all up under the tape and made for blurred lines. I found a cool trick online where you lay the tape, paint over it in the base color allowing it to dry, and then you paint the top layer. This helped set the field for some clean cuts.

For the frame I wanted to make something that had an "industrial" look to it. I also wanted a frame to fit the painting sheets that I have so I can swap out new paintings as I keep on brushin'. It is made of leftover OSB plywood from a workbench I took apart a few weeks back. I finished it with Danish Oil and really like the way the various woodchips took on the oil in differing shades. I look forward to having a spot to switch out the paintings as I try new styles of color tossing.
