Not-So-Weekly Update 12/16/22

Dec 16, 2022

Hi gang! Thank you for your patience between posts. I know this is the Not-So-Weekly Update, but I also know it's been SUPER not-so-weekly.

So what's been going on during my radio silence? A lot. So much, in fact, that it's been too overwhelming to sit and write about it, hence the long time away.

August: One on One/Next Level Atlanta Agent Showcase. It went as well as it could go without me actually getting any offers from agents. The anonymous feedback forms were once again conflicting and essentially a wash.

Also, my podcast, Tabula Rasa, B!tches! (TRB), wrapped its first season.

August - October: Worked the Maryland Rennaissance Festival just about every weekend and returned to live shows with The Murder Mystery Company. My workload with Simpler Media has been way down since my boss stopped his weekly podcast, so I've been making up the difference best I can with shows.

TRB began recording our second season, including guests for the first time. They have all been varying shades of amazing. Editing will be a bitch, but I'm very excited to share those episodes with our audience. Possibly most exciting was our podcast/social media friends The Buffy Gays became our actual friends from us guesting on their show and them guesting on ours. And they say the internet is causing isolation. eyeroll

November: One on One/Next Level LA Super Showcase! I connected so much more in this one trip with my fellow actors and the reps than I had in two trips to Atlanta. Potentially a sign, but we'll have to ignore that.

A few weeks after, I got a meeting with a commercial rep. He was absolutely lovely and essentially said, no pressure, but you need to be in LA for me to rep you so stay in contact and let me know if you make the move. He really was so gentle and non-rushy about the whole thing and had great answers to all my questions.

Thanksgiving in North Carolina. We (my family) celebrated the 10th anniversary of our first themed Thanksgiving by revisiting our original theme of pirates. Hazel and I dressed as Tony Chopper and Monkey D. Luffy from the anime One Piece. I was super duper happy with the results. I spent the whole trip answering questions about my impending move and saying while nothing was definite, I was leaning heavily toward LA.

December: Launching into the busy season with The Murder Mystery Company with four straight days of shows the first weekend of the month. That Monday I woke up sick with what I'd later discover is covid and that evening I found out my dad has cancer. (For more info, you can visit the CaringBridge page, but please no direct inquiries.)

I canceled the shows I had the rest of the week to rest up for the weekend because my in-loves were coming to visit, and we were having early family Christmas and this, of all times, was not the time to be too sick to partake.

LA is no longer the plan. It's simply out of the question. But so is staying in Maryland, not pursuing my career, my dream. So Atlanta, here we come. The exact timing is TBD, but I'm still roughly thinking of late summer 2023. There's still more info to gather which will determine our timeline, as well as a lot of housing things to sort out with selling our Baltimore place and finding a rental or purchase property in Atlanta. I already found the whole prospect totally overwhelming three weeks ago. So...

Today: I'm in Reading, Pennsylvania, in a lovely Airbnb for a few days of shooting for One for the Road - a short film adaptation of the Stephen King short story by the same name. The filmmaker/writer/director, Bill Rush, has been lovely through this whole process. He's been enthusiastically encouraging, paid us early, and has every possible need taken care of for us this weekend. I hope to share more about this awesome story eventually, but if you're interested, you should go read the short story. It's quite short and very good.

And now you're caught up.

I'm no longer raising funds for my LA trip, but help is still always appreciated. Please consider a monthly membership here or you can shoot a bit o cash my way on PayPal ([email protected]) or Venmo (Allie-Press).

Recently finished watching: Wednesday, Good Omens, The White Lotus (S1), and a score of cheesy holiday romances. I recommend Holidate.
