THE PRODIGY: PART I

THE PRODIGY: PART I

May 10, 2022

My name is Emma. I’m 22 years old and known to be the gifted child whom everyone called the Prodigy. Since I was a child, my parents have pushed me to be the best in everything which I was. I was known to achieve great success in everything as long as I worked hard on it and everything I do is always exceptional.

But despite all this achievement and success, something didn’t feel right, and my life felt empty…

[Congratulations to Emma for winning this year La Corda.]

[Award winning researcher Emma to receive a medal of honor.]

[Emma top-selling novel hit 1 Billion.]

Inside the grand library in one of the top universities.

Emma was busy reading through the news about her online until she received a sudden call. Whilst she listens to the person on the other end, she continues to scroll down and read all the news about her. She felt disgusted by all the praises she was receiving for none of those praises felt good at all.

“Yes, mother…” Emma replied whilst in deep thought: ‘music, sports, academic, what’s the point?’

The woman on the order end continues to vent out her frustration, leaving Emma all speechless and almost in tears. They couldn’t care less what her daughter is doing, nor how she is feeling, “Where are you? Do you know what time it is? You still have an appointment…”

“I’m still at school right now, I’m finishing up some work.” She sighs exhausted from all the venting her mother had done.

“Fine, I’ll have Stanley pick you up. You better wait outside the gate…” The woman demanded as she ended the call leaving no room for Emma to even voice out her thoughts.

Eventually, Emma had no option but to listen to her mother’s demands. She started packing her things, removed her glasses and put it away as well. She cleaned the table, she was working on. Afterwards, she started heading out of the library.

Whilst she was heading to the front gate of the university. She felt suffocated as her chest pained from all the eyes looking at her. She may not be able to hear what they were whispering to each other, but she has heard so much of them already that she could already anticipate what they are saying about her.

“Isn’t that Emma, I just heard she top the exam?”

“How can you take two majors courses, is she even human?”

“I heard her parents are pushing her to be the best, she doesn’t even have any friends.”

“What’s the point of being the best when no one cares.”

She felt disgusted by all those looking at her, as she sped up and ran to the front gate. Upset by all the comments she did not even hear, she was unaware of her surroundings and continued to flee from them. Due to her emotion taking control of her, she did not notice that people were actually calling out for her in such a concerned way.

As she realized the voices calling out her name, at the same time, the sound of a car honking, she recognized that the situation was not right.

But, it was already too late… By the time she had checked what was going on, her vision has completely gone blank.

…Ah-my head hurts.

Emma was still unconscious yet she was aware of her surroundings… She could hear the sound of a woman crying, she thought: Must be the nanny crying again.

Her heart was in too much pain that she felt like it was burning inside. She felt so guilty for causing her nanny to be worried about her. Whilst she thought back to the reason why she is in such a situation, she felt like dying instead of opening her eyes. In fear that her mother and father will surely have a mouthful to say to her.

‘Darn it, must I really see them now?’ She sighs, having no choice but to eventually open her eyes and stop acting dead

As she slowly opened her eyes, she prepared herself for the worst. The girl already expects to be in a bright, clean hospital room. But, when she discovered where she was, she couldn’t believe her eyes and thought that maybe she was dreaming.

‘This isn’t my room as well.’ She thought after looking around and noticing nothing seems to be familiar to her.

Emma has almost forgotten about the people inside the room, she thought maybe they were the ones who helped her. As she turned to see the woman all in tears beside her, she was blown away by how beautiful she was. As if she was seeing a goddess right in front of her, despite she does not even know what they look like.

But, it wasn’t only the woman’s beauty that has captivated her, but also the two gentlemen beside her. The two were trying to ease and comfort the woman, who continued to be in tears.

Apart from them, there were a few people in the room as well. One of them was an old man wearing such an old tacky robe. As if he was a medieval priest or something…

The old man was saying something in a language which surprisingly she understood. So, she listened in carefully as well curious as to what they were talking about.

“My Lord, my Lady, forgive me. I’ve tried my best, but I am not well-skilled enough to help the young lady.”

“Are you saying you’ll just let my sister die?” Noah lost his cool and started showing off a side that he must not be shown especially in front of his parents.

Emma was surprised to see how scary the young man could be. He may be handsome, but man he was scary. She felt sorry to hear what happened to his young sister. At the same time, she was curious about what she looked like.

‘She must indeed be beautiful seeing her parents and brother are very handsome.’
