Candy for my ex father in law

Candy for my ex father in law

Jun 18, 2021

Yeah. You read that right. Not only did I make wafer candy (which I don't like doing) but I made it for my EX father in law...

Fyi... me and him, we never got along! There's history there, but to make the story short, if I never see him again, I'll be happy. Pretty sure he feels that way about me.

However, my Ex, his whole family, treats MY kids like they are bio family. My ex even drove 2000+ miles ONE WAY for my daughters graduation. My ex mother in law took her for a girls day first chance she got when she came up to visit.

While they were out, they looked for dark chocolate candy bars that didn't have nuts or other crunchy things for the husband. Which isn't the easiest thing to find where she lives.

Well the next day we are shopping and she tells me that, so when we get to the baking isle I grab some meltinging dark chocolate wafers. Fake chocolate, I know, but it does taste nice.

Since my daughter has 0 intrest in making candy, not that melting chocolate is all that impressive. (Fyi, I do it in the microwave with a small plastic cup) I turn on Big Trick Energy on the computer (TruTv thur even for new episodes!) And make several small batches for all 10oz.

10oz is not enough for a full 6x6 set of domino's by the way, and I prob only wasted enough to make maybe one more piece (okay, the daughter totally got to lick what I couldn't pour, but her finger, not a spoon or toothpick)

Because this is me and I have to experiment, I put a googly eye in the 1x0, and two in the 1x1. Yes, they are crunchy, but they can be seen and im pretty sure the wife will happily eat the cruchy... or they can be eaten around.

In the 0x0, I put the clear sparkle, yeah, that didn't work.

But after I poured, I put them on the table to cool off and set while I watched a few episodes of Chris Ramsey, Alex Boyle, Wes... and Eric.... nope... dont know thier last names, have fun doing magic tricks for people and pulling pranks. These guys are amazing, and when they cross the line they stop and make expose the joke, and take care. One episode they do a big magic trick for a guy who owns a magic store which makes his day, and you see their faces and they look like they are going to cry because they made someone happy. Or when they teach a David Blane magic and get him to preform infront his family and friends, how they treat him. ... ehh... its a good buddy show, some of the magic is explained or ridiculous. The first minute is always a continuous shot, and the episode ends by showing you how that magic trick happens.

So after we watch tonight's episode (season 1, 9) I make the teens hot chocolate milk and sit down to paint the pieces. They talk until they decide to take my switch and it's dock upstairs so they can play.

I'm slow at painting... I deliberately do not time how long I spend making candy... but it's more than an hour...

And you know what, even though I do not like the guy, they don't even know I'm doing this, I still did my best. Not reheat and pour again best... but still, I tried to make it look good.

And that's how it should be. Always do your best. Even when nobody is looking, even if it's for someone you don't like. At the very least, it's practice.

They did come out pretty.
