The lies our mind tells us

The lies our mind tells us

May 30, 2021

I wrote about this on a facebook page but I thought I should include it here.

Don't you hate the lies our mind tells us? I describe depression as lies.

I don't know why but for some reason our brains lie to us. Depression seems to tell us that no one cares when people actually do. Brains tell you all kinds of lies, some I've personally heard are you aren't good enough, you can't do that, you will never be loved again. But that was just a lie. (Side note here, really loving yourself is the first step to finding a person to love you, trust me on that.)

Being a person of a different orientation than most, I also understand that depression can cause you to feel isolated. Thinking you are the only one or that no one understands you is very hard. Sorry, those are also lies. It takes time and maturity to understand what our brains do until then if you feel really down please reach out for help.

This is one of my favorite crisis lines as they are text only. I refer many younger people to them. I've found that lgbtq youth, or youth in general don't like to talk on the telephone. Text is a great way to communicate so this crisis text hotline works very well in that sense.

The Crisis Text Hotline is open 24/7. It is free to contact them. Just message the word HOME to 741741. A trained crisis counselor will talk to you about any subject without judgement.

I know you honestly believe no one cares but that's just not true. Stay well my friends. ( I am not a counselor. I give you this number out of my own personal experience and that of my friends). Link below on additional resources. I didn't crop this photo, I thought it might be helpful if you saw what I was doing at 7:19 am. :) )
