Angry Thunderstorm over the Ocean.

Angry Thunderstorm over the Ocean.

Mar 20, 2023

A massive storm cell was out at sea this evening.

I saw a few flashes of distant lightning out of the window this evening whilst I was at home. I decided to chance it and go down to the promenade in Umhlanga Rocks to take a photo.

The storm cell spread across the horizon, as far as I could see. The wet and salty humidity hung like a thick blanket in the air, making the strikes seem very faint. The distant strikes looked like the red little sparks you would get when you grind steel. The clouds above lit up for split seconds at a time, showing off the incredible volume of the clouds.

Suddenly, the humidity lifted and was replaced with a fierce wind. I had to brace my camera on its tripod with my hand and steady my legs, which were being stung by the sand, whilst a plastic chair made its way past me in the wind. The storm raged angrily out at sea, but that is where it seemed to stay despite the winds.

I eventually called it a night and headed home...

I love witnessing thunderstorms. No storm is alike, and I never know what to expect. They are always unique and beautiful in their ferocity. And I am always fascinated by distant thunderstorms, which seem so small, but are far from...

I decided to share this photo frok tonights storm. I hope that you like it.

This is a composite image created from some of the images that I captured, which have then been overlayed to create the single image.

South Africa has the most incredible beauty, and her storms are amazing. Keep looking for the beauty. It's there...

I am Proudly South African.
