Hand-painted Floral Bookmarks

Hand-painted Floral Bookmarks

Jun 07, 2021

One of my favorite pastimes is reading. I read online articles most of the time, but during my days off, I prefer to read real books. I even carry small or light books when I'm heading outside and I know I have time to chill at coffee shops. I read novels about life, self-help books and I also like to read biographies of people I look up to. Sometimes though, I forget to carry bookmarks with me, so I end up using receipts or table napkins instead. I found it ridiculous and pathetic at some point, that's why I decided to just make a few bookmarks (just for myself) sometime in 2018. I was getting interested in watercolor painting that time, but I usually practice with wreaths that take up an entire 8.5 x 11" page. So, I tried to cut my watercolor papers into tiny pieces and tried to work on some simple floral designs. After a few weeks, I started posting them on my Instagram and FB page and people seemed to like them. They asked if I was selling them, but that time, it was really just a mini-project that I tried to do for myself so I can have decent bookmarks when I'm reading real books. Eventually, I started selling them...and that's really how my artpreneurship started!

Now, I make bookmarks, cards, wall arts and at some point I had the guts to digitize my art and made postcards out of them. It was really fun and though it's not really my bread and butter, I love working on this side-hustle because it's been a great stress-reliever for me. I feel so calm and centered when I'm painting...and I feel this insane amount of happiness when people appreciate them. It is indeed a win-win situation! I am learning how to control my emotions (read : TEMPER) and I can make people smile when I post some of my artworks. And...I do internal cartwheels though when people buy them!
