Chapter 4

Oh, my head is throbbing.  I knew I shouldn’t have drunk that much last night.

Last night.  SHIT.

Mew told me that he would have gone even higher if someone tried to outbid him.  He wasn’t going to let anyone else have the weekend with me.  No matter what.

I was too shocked and didn’t know what to do, so I kept drinking beer.  How many bottles did I drink?  Dang it.  I can’t even remember.

This is bad.

I try to move and open my eyes, but I quickly stop and shut my eyes.

“Ugh…  My head….”

Something across my stomach moves.

My breath hitches and I want to open my eyes, but then again, I don’t.  Please tell me that that isn’t what I think it is.

Warm air cascades against my ear and down my neck.  “Is your head hurting that bad?”

SHIT!  DOUBLE SHIT!

I slowly open my eyes and turn my head.  Mew’s sleepy face comes into view.  Any other time, I would laugh at his bedhead, but this isn’t the time for that right now.

How did we end up in bed together?  There was no way that I was going to sleep next to him in the same bed.

Mew blinks a couple times before he moves a little to look at me.  As he moves, the blanket slides down his body and his bare chest comes into view.

What the heck?

Mew takes his arm off my stomach and then touches my forehead.  “You don’t seem to have a fever.  It looks just like a hangover.  However, your face is really red.  Are you sure that you aren’t sick too?”

This can’t be happening.  Why can’t the floor open up right now and swallow me whole?

I slowly shake my head slightly.  “No.  It is just a hangover.  How much did I drink?”

Mew smiles.  “Too much.”

He tosses back the sheets and gets up and walks to the bathroom while only wearing his boxers.

My eyes never once leave his body as his muscles flex with each step.  I could get used to waking up to seeing that every day.

Wait.  What am I saying?

I quickly close my eyes and rest my head back on my pillow.

I’m definitely going to make sure that I don’t sleep on the bed with him tonight.  Even though I don’t want to sleep on the couch, I’m going to just so we are sleeping in separate rooms.

What would my mother say if she knew that I slept in the same bed with him?

I flop my arm across my eyelids and sigh.

I only have one more night and two days before I can leave and go home.

Wait.  How am I getting home?  I never even bothered to ask my mom.  I’m sure that she is coming back to get me, right.

The bed dips, and Mew softly chimes, “Here, take some pain medicine.  Hopefully, you will start to feel better soon.”

I slowly take my arm off my face and open my eyes.  I take the pills from Mew’s hand and toss them into my mouth before I wash them down with the water.

Mew takes back the glass of water.  “Why don’t you rest for a bit more?  Maybe by lunch, you will start to feel better and we can go out and do something.”

I nod my head and close my eyes.  Within seconds, I’m back to sleep.

I slowly wake up again.  This time though I don’t have an arm resting across my body or something warm to my side.  No, this time, the bed is cold and empty.

I glance around the room.  It is empty too.

The throbbing in my head is now tamed down to a low thud, which I can handle.  Even though I don’t like it, I can handle it.

I slowly roll out of bed and head to the bathroom.  I don’t remember what I did last night, but whatever it was, my whole body aches too.

A nice warm shower will definitely help me to feel better.

After taking a bath and getting dressed, I head out to the living room.  As soon as I step out of the bedroom, I’m overwhelmed by the delicious smell of food.  My stomach instantly agrees and growls demanding to eat.

As if on autopilot, I follow the smell towards the kitchen.  “Hey, what smells so good?  Is that our lunch?”

Mew chuckles as he stands in front of the stove stirring something in a pan.  Whatever it is, it smells really good.  “Well, it isn’t really lunch anymore.  It is almost 2pm, but yeah, this is what I’m fixing for our lunch.  It is almost done.”

Oh, I didn’t even look at the time when I got up.  I guess I should have woken up several hours ago.  I hope he doesn’t want some kind of refund for not spending more hours with him.  Ugh.  This whole auction thing is so messed up.

As I walk across the kitchen, my eyes trail across Mew’s broad shoulders and his white muscular legs.  Well, I have to say that I like him wearing shorts.

Wait.  What am I thinking?

I shake my head and walk up next to Mew.  I lean forward and close my eyes.  I take a deep breath and savor the smell.

Ahhh…  That smells good.

Warm air suddenly cascades across my ear and neck, which sends a shiver through my body.

I instantly jolt and jump backwards.

Why did he do that?

I whip my head towards Mew while rubbing my ear and neck.  “Don’t do that.”

Mew smirks and keeps his eyes on the pan.  “Do what?  I’m just stirring the food.”

I snort but don’t say anything else.  I don’t want him to refuse to give me some of that food.  It smells too good and my mouth is watering.

I turn and stomp towards the refrigerator.  As I open the refrigerator door, I huff, “I’ll wait at the table.”

My blood begins to boil as Mew chuckles while I head towards the table, which already is set for a meal.  I don’t know what he is expecting from me.  I’m just glad that I only have one more day with this guy.

As I plop down in the chair, I glare across the kitchen at Mew, who continues stirring the food completely oblivious of me.

While walking down the sidewalk with people strolling by, I can’t help but steal glances at Mew.  He hasn’t lost his smile all day.

I think I made his entire year when I couldn’t stop telling him how much I loved his cooking.  Even now, just casually walking around the town admiring the city’s sculptures and parks has him smiling from ear to ear.

However, a little part of my mind keeps whispering to me that it isn’t just the city, but that there is something more to it.

I steal another glance at him.  Yep, he is still smiling.

I hesitantly ask, “What else do you want to do today?  It is Saturday, after all.  We should probably do something a little more special than just walking around.”

Mew chuckles.

I pull my phone out of my pocket and begin searching for things to do.  As I scroll the many listings, my finger suddenly stops on one.  A smile spreads across my face and I slightly bounce as I turn towards Mew.  “Hey.  There is an art show going on at the art studio around the corner.  Do you want to go to that?”

His eyes sparkle when I mention art show.  I think I found something that he likes.

He nods his head.  “Yeah.  That sounds like fun.”

Ring…ring…ring…

Mew pulls his phone out of his pocket, and for the first time today, he frowns.  He glances up at me.  “I need to take this.  I’ll be right back.”

I nod my head and watch him walk further ahead of me where I can’t hear him.

What is that all about?
