Noise Sensitivity

Noise Sensitivity

Oct 11, 2021

Does anyone else experience this? Misophonia is the official name & probably applies more to extreme responses. People can get very angry over chewing or pencil tapping, for examples. Those don’t tend to irritate me. Though, sometimes when my dogs are lapping up their water, I can get a little cranky. I think, that, most of us prefer to have it quiet (or at least, fairly so) when we're sleeping. I don't care for most sounds then. The worst, for me is, talking, music & TV. I can get rather infuriated with those, but not all of the time.

There are times that, even when it's at a reasonable hour, if it's loud or prolonged (especially if it's right outside), it can give me anxiety. I think part of this might be due to the fact, my grandma & I lived on an acre when I was growing up. There were homes on three sides of us, but, enough space that you didn't really notice the activity from the neighbors. The main sounds there would be would be of nature. Birds, crickets, frogs, dogs, etc. It was calm most of the time & ever since I’ve been wanting to live some place like that again.

Since that time, including, with my now ex husband, we lived in closer proximity to people. The best was when we had our mobile home for seven years. There was a little distance between each home. Currently, I’m in a studio. The kinds of noises & the level of those can vary. I'm looking forward to living in a more peaceful place once more.
