Writing the Way We Talk

Writing the Way We Talk

Oct 12, 2022

You probably have heard the advice about writing what you know. Especially good for bloggers & non fiction writers. Who might have a particular theme, such as, gardening, crafting, automotive, music. Or, maybe, it’s a variety of topics, but based on a person’s experience or perception.

Writing as we actually talk is something I thought everyone who writes does. Though, perhaps, trotting out words they may not often use in conversation, but want to in their articles or stories to be able to show they have an extensive vocabulary. Writing the way you normally converse would make it more understandable & flow better.

How I write is how I usually speak. I admit I do swear (more so when I’m upset) & use slang. I don’t know if I’ll do either here. I also will start off with one thought, which reminds me of something else, so I meander down that path. That will trigger another memory & I’ll chase after that. I’ll eventually circle back to the original topic. For the most part I will stay on point here. Going off on different subjects is more for when I’m talking with someone directly. Whatever my style is on here, know that it is part of the way I typically speak. Is your writing the same as your regular speech?
