Hello! Edinburgh Literary Salon is a voluntary organisation Based in the City of Edinburgh in Scotland (UK)

Edinburgh has a long and proud history of creating and nurturing authors from Robert Louis Stevenson, Sir Walter Scott, J. K Rowling, and Sir Ian Rankin to name but a few.

We stage a free monthly event (in person & on Zoom) to provide a meeting point for those in the literary industries in Edinburgh, surrounding areas and beyond, to gather, socialise and exchange ideas and information. This helps maintain a healthy and vibrant literary arts community. 

We aim to form connections to other literary organisations, alert our members to relevant information and opportunities, and forge interest among anyone passionate about literature.

We published our first Anthology Lost, Looking and Found with the help of Edinburgh Napier University Master students who worked with our real time published authors to create this beautiful book in 2021. Our second anthology The Golden Hours appeared two years after.

We are offering a free bundle to those that join our £20 monthly membership. You will also be gaining a community of like-minded individuals, plus links and notifications to our Salons and guest speakers, and our Notes of Interest.

Our Salons

Monthly Salons, building friendships, supporting writers, and promoting the literary community, usually on the last Tuesday of the month, start at 6.30pm or 7pm on Zoom.

A Bit of History

Edinburgh Literary Salon arose out of the awarding of the world’s first UNESCO European City of Literature title to Edinburgh in 2004. It reflected the literary heritage of the City, and emulated the famous Salons of the Scottish Enlightenment where poets, songwriters, diarists, and novelists rubbed shoulders with the eminent and wealthy.

After cuts in funding, the City of Literature was unable to continue sponsorship, but the Salon was valued by its members, who took over, expanded objectives, and have continued to run for 5+ years, with no funding support.
