What is true freedom? What is behind this concept? Is it achievable? Often we sacrifice the most important thing for the sake of her ghost. This is what Jonathan Franzen thinks about in Freedom. The main characters of the book are democratic, educated, environmentally friendly and free of prejudice, they have an ideal family. However, good intentions do not save them from the shocks that are fraught with the relationship of free people in the family and society. The characters are inspired by the generation that witnessed 9/11, the invasion of Iraq, the rise of multinational corporations, and the financial crisis. The novel strengthened Franzen on the podium as the main American prose writer, his ideas are still relevant today.
