Throughout preparedness literature and thinking is this inherent belief in many that it cannot happen to them, that they are somehow insulated from disruption and therefore do not require a strategy to ameliorate suffering. This is called avoidance, it is very popular when a task or threat seems insurmountable or inherently too difficult to navigate, people simply avoid, dismiss and carry on with life. This is a recipe for disaster - it can and does happen to people like you. Preparedness is about accepting that you exist in a world that can cause you harm and disruption irrespective of your station in life. If you would like to be able to navigate these struggles, then prepare, the government isn't coming to the rescue.
