Hello! Here is a small excerpt from my first draft. This was one of my favorite scenes to write. Hopefully (I'm sure) there will be more of those sorts of scenes to come:
Donovan sat once again in that coffee shop in that back corner table. This time he ordered something with more of an edge. He wondered what device Maddox wanted to discuss. Oddly enough, there was no mention of any such new idea from Dr. Maverick or the other researchers. They were still in the development of the invisibility device.
Maddox spotted Donovan right away just as he did before. He pulled out a chair and gave Donovan a long stare making Donovan a bit uncomfortable.
“I assume this is about the invisibility device?”
Maddox was blunt. “I want to speculate developing a device that grants telepathy.”
Donovan froze in shock. “Telepathy?”
“I deeply considered your brief mention of telepathy the last time we met here. It’s an intriguing concept that is worthy of being addressed again after all these years.” Maddox spoke calmly calculating a thought-out plan he had.
“That was just a hypothetical scenario!” Donovan exclaimed being very careful to control his voice. “Come on! It wasn’t to be taken seriously!”
“I’ve thought long and hard about your fun little speculation as you call it,” Maddox continued. “But I think it could become something more than that.”
Donovan was quiet at first. He took a sip of coffee to delay his response. “But wasn’t telepathy attempted and failed? Why do you think this time would be any different?”
Maddox smiled. “It’s simple. You are what’s different this time.”
Donovan froze.
“There is something different about you, Donovan. You are a highly peculiar individual that can provide us with unique knowledge and insight.”
An uneasy feeling began to form inside Donovan. There was no doubt that Maddox knew something was up with Donovan. Did Maddox believe in portals to other dimensions? Had the idea that Donovan might be from another dimension ever cross his mind?
