My first post!
I would like to use this platform for not only sharing my photos, but also for a blog and a teaching tool. I'd like to share how I go about making my photos, from the beginning to the end.
I took this image yesterday. The day before, we were hit with about about 10 inches of snow. While I did not like shoveling my driveway, it did make for a pretty scene the next morning. All the trees were covered in a layer of hoar frost. I was also next to a small lake that wasn't completely frozen over which produced some fog.
While I usually like to plan my shots out, I had to move quickly because the sun was getting higher and I knew I didn't have much time. With so much beauty around me, it can be difficult to get and image you are looking for. I wanted to create an image that was impactful and told a story or conveyed a feeling, rather than just snapping a photo white covered trees. After a few minutes of searching, I found this tree that stood out. I moved around a bit until I settled in on this composition. While I usually set my aperture to around F8-F11 for a longer depth of field(it's also where my lenses are the sharpest), I decided to use a shallower depth of field to slightly blur out the background a bit to help bring more emphasis on the tree. I also wanted the image to feel a bit softer and to reflect the foggy scene. The shallower depth of field also adds a bit more glow to the scene.
Setting:
ISO: 125. F4. 1/1000 sec 70mm
Equipment: Nikon D750 with Nikon 24-70mm. no filters. hand held
I hope to update this page a couple times a week with a mix of old and new work and to update you on what I have planned in the future.
