Pet dog finds dying woman

Posted 13 April 2019

A pet dog has been described as a hero for finding an as yet unidentified young woman and sitting with her through the night.

The patterdale terrier, known as Dora the Explorer, has a history of rambling on her own and is a familiar sight to locals of Sandalbeat Woods. She was found in the early hours of this morning beside the body of a woman by another dog, Duke, and their owner, Andrew Pembroke.

A spokesman for the police force said that inquiries into the death and the woman's identity were ongoing but circumstances and preliminary investigation suggested that the young woman had been attacked and later died of her injuries. It would seem that Dora had found the woman before she died and did her best to comfort the unknown woman through the night.

"It’s a powerful thing," said Andrew Pembroke, "to think that our animals love us so much that they'll stay beside us through anything."

Dora is currently in the custody of South Yorkshire Police and will be returned to her family as soon as possible.

Renewed appeal for information about mystery woman

Posted 14 April 2020

South Yorkshire Police have released an appeal for any potential witnesses or anyone who may have any information on the woman who died in Sandalbeat Woods a year ago to come forward. The woman is as yet unidentified, despite a year of posters with her likeness having been posted throughout the region.

"We have here a young woman who must surely be missed by her family," says a spokeswoman for the force. "A young woman who was brutally murdered, apparently in a family-friendly public space. Someone must know something and someone must need to know what happened to her."

The victim is described as dark-haired and in her mid-twenties. Her clothes were torn but expensively hand-made of high quality, natural materials and the police describe her as someone who obviously had some concern for her general appearance due to the condition of her hair, teeth and nails.
