Introducing Kora Renee Gates

Jan 11, 2023

Kora is the main character of The Forgotten Arts, whether she likes it or not. I’ve pulled together a glimpse into who she is, while showing off our first official piece of art of Kora, brought to you by Inessa Burnell!

Keep in mind that we won’t be going too in depth with her personal history, since much of it is involved in the story of The Forgotten Arts, and we don’t really want spoilers here!

The artwork for our heroine here is brought to you by one of my favorite artists, Inessa Burnell! Check her out here! Home | InessaBurnellArt

Appearance

Kora, in her own opinion, isn’t all that special to look at. If you asked her what she thought her best feature was, she’d probably tell you her shoulder length red hair, or her dark blue eyes, but even getting her to admit as much would take some work.

She’s just a bit taller than average, average weight, and, well that’s just it. She’s pretty much average, and really doesn’t see the need to make a fuss about it any further.

When she isn’t wearing her uniform for Ahasteno University, Kora dresses more for comfort than aesthetics. T-shirts, jeans, sweaters, whatever is comfortable. She doesn’t bother with make up, or fuss with styling her hair. In her opinion, honestly, a reasonable person does not have the time for something like that.

General Characteristics and History

Kora is quite easy-going and optimistic, but is deeply conflicted on what she wants to do with her life. Everyone around her always seems so sure of who they are, and what they can do. All of that seems so foreign to her. Most of the time Kora can hardly manage to decide what she wants to eat for dinner.

For the most part, Kora has mostly followed what has been expected of her by her parents. She’s a straight A student, ran for the track team, and ran for student council, though she ended up losing the elections she ran in. Even her application for Ahasteno Academy was done because it was expected of her. Yet, she doesn’t know what she wishes to study at the Academy. She had thought that, perhaps, once she started her studies at the Academy that answer might come to her.

She is perhaps most comfortable with a good book in some cozy, cramped corner where she can read until the early hours of the morning, getting lost in far-flung worlds and forgotten ages. Kora will read just about anything in a language she can understand… which is just English, but she has always wanted to learn another language.

Just what could this mysterious ring be? She could have sworn it wasn't there a moment ago...
