Shattered Wings is a High Fantasy Epic trilogy I have been working on for ten years with a companion Tabletop RPG. It has taken many forms over the years, and several different versions. But now, the true version is at hand.
It takes place in the world of Oraspire, a planet scarred by a massive war thousands of years ago, the Genesis Wars. Esera, a Guardian created by the Gods to watch over and protect life, declared herself the true God. She used her power of Affect, the ability to force others to do what she commands, which had been intended to help direct life away from destroying itself, to take control of millions.
Gods, Demons, Spirits, and mortal Aelph fought for thousands of years, resulting in the death of billions. The Cataclysm of the Genesis Wars cannot be overstated. Entire country sides burned, mountains ranges were raised and felled, seas flooded and dried up, and continents split and smashed together. In the end, the Aelphen people died out, and Kazu the Shattered Wings, and Maron the Crimson Wings, two Guardians who were able to resist Esera's Affect, killed Esera to end the War.
The world that remained recovered slowly over the course of thousands of years. 12 Noble Species emerged from the ashes and rekindled civilization. Kingdoms and Empires rose and fell over the centuries. Over time, the Guardians that remained returned to the Gods, and passed through The Door from this life.
Now, in the present day, the world is on the verge of global conflict the likes that hasn't been seen since the Genesis Wars. The Aioptum Empire and the Lakellos Sun Empire seem likely to conquer the lands of Oraspire, with little to stand in their way.
But a small group of warriors in the New Vonan Kingdom could be what turns the unstoppable tide.
Savic is a disgraced knight from the crumbling Cairne Empire. For his failures he was forced to swear himself from the sword, never taking up a weapon again. Full of regret, and eager to do better, he looks for meaning and redemption in his life
Claire Mei Ahasteno is an Asaronai who has trapped the spirit of a great demon within herself. She uses the demon's power to slay other demons, but each time she uses that power she gets closer to losing control. She seeks for a way to vanquish her dark prisoner before she is too late.
Lady Natalya Aelynn Rozensmyth is a high-ranking noblewoman with a scandalous past. Rejecting the ideas of what a noble should be, Natalya tries to better understand the lives of the common people. As she begins to see the rising tides of conflict, she desperately looks for any way to keep war from coming to Vona.
Her squire, Ai Ru Song looks to prove herself and earn acceptance from her father, a well-respected war hero. She is uneasy about her mentor's refusal to "live as a noble should", and her embrace of the common folk, along with her near insatiable appetite for alcohol and... pleasant company.
Kanawe Umadashi Sorihado, is an eccentric Arcane Philosopher from across the Silver Sea. She believes she has discovered the location of the lost city of Otanua, which is said to have highly advanced technology that could turn the tide. But she is not alone in her search.
Akren Seazeno, a thief for hire from the Makerian Rize Empire stumbled upon a horrifying secret while on a job. Now afflicted with a terrible curse, he looks for a way to break it before it consumes him.
They are directed by Constable Deitrich Stalfeld a lawman with a mysterious past who seems to know much more than he lets on. He seems to have good intentions, but can the party truly trust a man of which they know so little?
Though their personal goals may differ, they all seek to stop a greater conflict from occurring. Is there anything they can do to stand in the way? Are they too late to make a difference? Will the world burn regardless of what they do?
