After getting into Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Science in 2020, when the world was going crazy over rapid spread of COVID-19, I wondered if I was making a huge mistake. I saw other students, most of them skilled in coding, computer science, architecture etc and I, a finance graduate who has painted some random walls and likes to sketch and does papercutting for fun, I am going to embarrass myself BIG TIME. I never felt I had the burning passion that people talk of, when I hear the words 'burning passion', I imagine - no sleep, no appetite only work on what you are passionate about. I don't and can't do that. I need my sleep.
But as I learned how to use a laser cutter and observed the process of other students (even remotely), I realized, that it ALL comes down to the work, to the action. All the worries and insecurities had to be moved out of the table to make space for creation, actual work. In the end what matters is just that - what YOU create.

Quality comes from quantity. The more time I spend actually making things (irrespective of its commercial value) my skills get honed. Planning is essential yes, but it is very easy to get caught up in planning. The fear of failure (most of the times) does not let us into the ground, 'what if this goes wrong, what is the action plan' is constantly on loop. We can come up with 1000 ways of how something can go wrong but once we do it we may find out the 1001st way it could go wrong and we find (or look for) a solution then and there because now that we have started ,we need to finish it. If only we used the time spent in planning 1000 solutions for working on just 5 different ways of actually creating the same thing, we would have 5 creations out there.
Don't get me wrong, I do not mean manufacturing CONTENT for the world. Just creation for the sake of creation, for the love of expression.
