Labour Conference: Keir Starmer's speech was as cliched and dated as it was dull and tedio

Sep 28, 2022

Keir Starmer's keynote speech at Labour Conference was no highlight by the time you've picked through what he said. So Keir Starmer’s conference speech. The media loved it, lots of talk of Prime Minister in waiting, but ultimately it was nothing that we didn’t hear in 1996 and if you’ve not watched the Al Jazeera Labour Files documentaries, you might want to, to get a flavour of how he’d actually run the country. He had the nerve to raise Hillsborough in Liverpool, despite being an avid writer in the S*n and having invited S*n hacks to this conference, offending the city he’s stood in so much. The former monarchy abolitionist, again had to trot out platitudes to a rich old lady who was buried last week. You won’t be surprised to hear his mum being a nurse got a mention, just in case you forgot, that he was director of public prosecutions, in case you were unaware, and of course his dad being a toolmaker, because when doesn’t he remind us? It set the tone for another bland, beige show of dishonesty from a man who makes a dead light bulb seem bright. Throughout he talked about working people as if the out of work or disabled don’t matter – I’m sure workers on strike that he won’t support either are convinced! It upset the Disability NEC rep Ellen Morrison so much she posted a vid berating Keith on Twitter, as he is consistently pulled up on this, but doesn’t seem to care. He claimed credit for the Tories freezing energy prices, despite it being nicked by him off the Lib Dems. He plans to fix staffing in the NHS with loads of training, but that takes years, alongside recruitment, but from where, when people have been lost due to Brexit or have quit after getting burnt out? No solutions to that and with Wes Streeting crowing for more private health intervention and private health donations to Labour buying influence, why should we believe this? He couldn’t resist crowing about tackling antisemitism, despite stripping the conference pass off the only member of his own NEC who happens to be Jewish because she is left wing and of course that is really what it has all been about, it was a scam and why left wingers will not vote for him. You’re 5 times more likely to be expelled as a Jew from Labour now as you are if you’re a non Jew. The biggest takeaway though was his proposal of GB Energy a publicly owned company delivering 100% renewable energy by 2030. It’s to be a producer and distributor only though, not a supplier. You won’t be able to switch to it, it’ll sell to other suppliers in the hope they’ll reduce their prices. Do they look interested in doing that? Renationalise the f**king lot man, as you promised you would. It was drivelish, boring stuff from a man who has broken so many promises and pledges, his nose ought to look like Concorde by now, yet he’s asking you to trust him on delivering this for you. Well I don’t trust him, it doesn’t matter what he says anymore at all. I will not put my faith in a cliched, uninspiring liar.
