Outback Sunsets

Outback Sunsets

Dec 07, 2021

What would a series of travel blogs be without the obligatory photos of Sunsets… I know that deep down some of you like saying goodbye to the sun. For me, the sooner the sun goes to bed, the sooner I can go to bed too! Here are a few of the sunsets I have managed to capture with my phone. It is not one of the best pieces of photographic equipment ever produced but it gives you a bit of an idea of what we saw...

The first scene is in Yulara. We didn't even have to leave the back yrad to experience it.

This next sunset is also from Yulara. Ma and Pa were taken for a tour of the Field of Light exhibition and we managed to capture the sunset and some of the 50,000 individual stems of light. The exhibit is known as Tili Wiru Tjuta Nyakutjaku or "looking at lots of beautiful lights"

This is a view from Tennant Creek Caravan Park... now that was an interesting place to stay! Even though the park was completely enclosed by a iron fence with barbed wire around the top and a gate that was locked at 6pm, we still had police cars with very bright spotlights patrolling the internal roads of the park during the night.

This is a view from the Devils Marbles Roadhouse in Wauchope, where we stayed in the rear compound for $20 a night.

This sunset was taken from the main street of Winton standing out the front of the famous North Gregory Hotel - the first public performance of Banjo Patterson's Waltzing Matilda

We stumbled across this awesome free-camp site half way between Mt Isa and Conclurry. The area is known as Clem Walton Park with plenty of spots to set up camp and enjoy views like this... you can even park right at the waters edge... I spotted a very large sign that warned of flash flooding. It read "if it starts to rain - leave immediately!"

That's it for this time... Remember: "Coffee is like having a hug in a mug"
