Optimism is a Strategy!

Optimism is a Strategy!

Dec 23, 2021

Dear Family of Friends,

Yah, it's been a helluva a year. ANOTHER ONE! Sheesh! And yet I feel compelled to look around and be grateful for the many luxuries I enjoy, such as:

  • Flush toilets right inside my home (My Mum grew up using an outhouse.)

  • Running clean water that's safe to drink (There are still over 700M people on Earth without it.)

  • Automatic whole house heating (My grandmother had to shovel coal into her furnace.)

  • A healthy body (I saw a man this week who was completely paralyzed from the neck down.)

  • Plenty of delicious food to eat (About 1 in 6 kids in the US live with hunger.)

  • A safe neighborhood (My neighbors and I can walk our streets without fear.)

  • Fun things to do (We've hosted dozens of virtual concerts during the pandemic.)

Why focus on what's WORKING? Gratitude fuels optimism. And, while I still cannot find any LOGICAL reason for optimism, I LOVE this quote from known cynic Noam Chomsky:

“Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. Because unless you believe that the future can be better, it’s unlikely you will step up and take responsibility for making it so. If you assume that there’s no hope, you guarantee that there will be no hope. If you assume that there is an instinct for freedom, there are opportunities to change things, there’s a chance you may contribute to making a better world. The choice is yours." - Noam Chomsky

Yes, my friends, OPTIMISM is a STRATEGY! HOPE is a CHOICE! Don't wait for logic or reason to give you hope. CHOOSE HOPE.

May this holiday season bring you the gifts that keep on giving: Optimism and Hope.

Pass it on! Optimism and hope are CONTAGIOUS! There is NO VACCINE! There is NO CURE!

KEEP GROWING & KEEP GOING!

Happy Holidays!
