Staying Fit Whilst Travelling

Staying Fit Whilst Travelling

Sep 19, 2021

There is nothing worse then the thought of not being able to stay fit and healthy whilst travelling – Some people like to know that they can get some fitness in whilst travelling – others are the polar opposite. I spose it also depends what kind of travel you are doing also… holiday or working holiday etc.

Ive made notes of the things that I do to keep my fitness up whilst travelling and also done some research of what others do too so you can get an idea of how much stuff there is that can be done to stay fit whilst you are on the go on your travels.

Pack a skipping rope or light/easy to use equipment.

That’s right, something so simple as packing a couple of light pieces of equipment that wont take up much space in your luggage can definitely help with keeping you fit, you can take things like Skipping Ropes, Resistance bands etc which you can use in any location no matter where you are travelling to or are staying.

Walking

Walk here, there and everywhere. Need to go to the museum and it’s a 10 min uber drive? Walk. Needing to go to the beach? Walk. You do so much walking when you are travelling and sometimes you don’t even realise how much you actually do – going through the large airports for one. Why not also take that FREE Walking tour offered in the city you are visiting – another great way to get some sightseeing in whilst getting your fitness on track.

Body Weight Exercises

So many options with this one – but im talking about jumping jacks, burpees, squats, push ups, crunches. These are the types of exercises you can do no matter where you are… done some tanning on the beach? Cool now do 30 crunches. Going out on that tinder date? Sweet, then quick do 3 sets of 25 pushups.

Carrying your luggage

Yup too right, carrying that backpack, or that suitcase will help you stay fit. Think about all the times your suitcase weighed a tonne and you had to pick it up or carry it up some stairs or lift it and put it into that taxi or hire car. Carrying a backpack around also helps play a part in your fitness.

Sightseeing run/jog

Chuck your running shoes on and head outdoors for that morning run, not only will you get to have your own self guided sightseeing tour but you will also get fit and keep healthy whilst you are doing it – don’t forget to take your phone as there will be many photo opportunities! You can either use google maps to map your run or just choose your way whilst running, and if you get lost – well more fitness time trying to find your way back ( with the help of locals or the google maps on your phone)

Hiking

Decide where you are going to go, pack your water & snacks, chuck on your shoes and off you go! Hiking is a great way of exploring a new place and submerging yourself into the outdoors like no other way I can think of. Find that hidden waterfall, push your limits, see scenery like you wouldn’t from the roadside. I would recommend basing your hike on your fitness level, don’t go on a 4 hours hike if you are not too fit – start with a 30-60 minute one, you will still enjoy it.
