Benefits of Lavender Tea

Mar 30, 2021

Lavender (Scientific name Lavandula angustifolial) tea may detoxify the body, may boost sleep, may improve mood disorders, and boost your immune system.

Detoxifies the Body:

Lavender tea has antioxidants that eliminate the toxins that can cause bad side effects. These antioxidants work to get rid of free radicals that are caused by pollution, heavy drinking, smoking, etc. These free radicals have been known to be linked to an increase in certain types of cancer and may speed up the aging process.

Boost Your Sleep

Drinking lavender tea at night might help you unwind in turn making it easier for you to sleep. There have been some studies that suggest it may help with insomnia due to its ability to induce calm. According to scientific research, lavender tea boosts the production of dopamine and reduces the stress hormone known as cortisol. 1

Anxiety, Moods

Lavender tea may help anxiety by relaxing the muscles and the nerves. It may also help relieve stress, tension, headaches, muscle pain, restlessness, and depression. By drinking lavender tea, it helps soothe an upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, swelling of the abdomen, and intestinal gas.

Boost one's Immune Health

By drinking this tea, you are getting Vitamin C, calcium, and magnesium which will help you ward off the common cold and the flu. Lavender contains antioxidants and antibacterial compounds that support your immune system which will make it easier to fight off viral, bacterial, and fungal infections.

How to Brew a Cup of Lavender Tea

Ingredients:

1 cup of water

½ teaspoon dried lavender

1 teaspoon honey (optional)

Pour boiling hot water over the dried lavender in a cup. Steep for 5 minutes. Add honey or any sweetener that you want. The lavender maybe a little overpowering in taste. I usually drink my tea black but this time I had to add the honey due to the overpowering taste of the lavender.

Dried lavender can go bad so make sure you are storing them in an airtight jar and that no moisture can get at it.

Do not ingest lavender essential oils when making the tea. Either use teabags, dried or loose lavender.

Lavender tea is a personal taste.

Side Effects

Lavender essential oil as aromatherapy is safe during pregnancy but there is not enough research done on drinking tea during pregnancy. Even though there aren’t enough studies on the benefits of drinking lavender tea, it may still help you relax at the end of a hectic day. It may also help you sleep, may support skin health, soothe anxiety, and your moods. It may cause headaches, an increase in appetite, and constipation if you drink too much. It is safe to drink in moderation.
