“It’s Amazing That We Always Stumble Onto Good Finds”

Jul 26, 2021

On our way home from our recent trip, we decided to sleep at Truckee, California. It’s a lovely Alpine town near Tahoe. In the morning, Keith had a hankering for a breakfast burrito. He Yelp’ed up the Red Truck Cafe nearby. We were both disappointed as we drove up and saw that it was inside a tiny airport, thinking that we would be getting typical heart clogging airport food.

Whoaaa! I had the best mushroom, kale, and Parmesan quiche ever. And Keith’s Quinoa, Tahini sauce, eggs, potatoes breakfast bowl was out of this world. This place reminds me a lot of the 3 Star Michelin food counter inside the Mobil station, at Lee Vining, outside of Yosemite and Mono Lake. It’s called appropriately Whoa Nellie Deli. They are both GREAT finds. You truly must stop by and partake.

This is a snapshot of Red Truck Cafe menu:

As we drove away, Keith reminisced out loud of how lucky we are to always stumble on these great finds.

I thought about it for a moment and had to chime in. I don’t think it is luck. I think it is much bigger than that. Luck is something that just happens. I think it is a combination of ATTRACTION and ABUNDANCE. There are some invisible active things that we do that draw these experiences to us. It’s much more than foods by the way.

I think it’s a dance between us and the universe. And in a dance both people, both sides put 100% of ourselves into the dance to make it work.

On our side, We are:

  1. Open, curious, pliable or flexible to seek out or invite in amazing experiences.

  2. Instead of being fearful and suspicious, only looking for things that we are familiar with, we are adventurous and often say to ourselves “why not?” Or “Let’s” Or “Ooooh, wouldn’t it be nice if we….”

  3. Trusting. This is super hard to do.

For example, last night we arrived at a camp ground and it was full, even though it was a Sunday night. We attempted to book several sites online, but none was panning out. Somehow we spotted a site, only to find out that a man was there setting up his tent. He was kind of “scary” looking, tatooed up and down his body, shaven head, saggy pants. But he offered to let us share his spot for free. It was a bit muggy, so I opened the side door wide open, as we lounged on the bed watching TV and eating. It was dark, and my mind went to… “Oh my God, we are going get killed. He can just walk in and kill us and take the van.” Yes, totally uncontrollable bias thinking overtook me. I have to constantly counter them, as we expose ourselves to wild boondocking locations when there are no one around, or in this case, next to a stranger who looks like a white Neo-Nazi. Of course all was well and I am reminded again to keep opening up and trusting.

On the other side of this dance, the Universe delivers. She has so many surprises up her sleeves. Abundance is the right word to describe what is out here. She invites us to go beyond our small comfort zone and experience her beautiful nature, and the creative humans that are hard at work offering up their creative expression for us to enjoy.

It’s definitely safer to stay at home. But when we open ourselves to exploring, we encounter amazing, kind, and generous people, surprisingly delicious foods, and stunning views and experiences.

I hope you too get to get out here and explore with us.

Please “heart”, make a comment, and share with your friends. Thank you for visiting and loving us.

This was our camp spot. It was lovely.
