People, culture and places are the subjects of my photography. I am drawn to a vision of the world that still has some semblance of human engagement, rather than the superficial nature of modern times that holds false appeal. The past has a greater and nostalgic appeal for me, a time of learning through life’s experiences rather than modern consumerist culture; A concern for the decline of dialogue and human interaction drives my desire to document a fast disappearing imagery.
I hope my work reflects a vision of the state of the world today, and I invite the viewer to celebrate the capacity of human beings to endure through the adversities of life.
It is the human face, the ‘humanscape’, that tells the story of people; the experiences they’ve lived, the hardships they’ve endured, and the wisdom they’ve gained. Hopefully, you will agree people whose faces have been inscribed by the travails of life demand a second glance.
I work primarily in Black & White photography seeking that perfect natural light that reveals the story behind the people I encounter. Colour, I believe, places a veil over the truth. It is the absence of colour that stimulates and engages one’s imagination, liberating the mind to see beyond my photographs.
My passion for black and white photography resonates with my love for film noir, jazz & a great cup of black coffee.
Over recent years I have had a few solo exhibitions at a few galleries in London under the general theme, I call ‘the Humanscape’.
