Financially Exploiting Children is Bad Business Practice

Nov 18, 2021

Should We Be Financially Exploitating Children to Fill the Worker Shortage? No.

Many people think that using children and paying them as low as possible is a solution to worker shortages. I'm here to say that it's not a solution, it is financial abuse. Further, it is financial abuse of children.

Financial abuse of children is never an acceptable business practice and I am here to say that there is no instance where this is okay.

If we really want our economy to be better, we might definitely offer work to young people, but we should pay them thriving, if not "increasing wages". This will allow them to fund their IRAs, 401Ks, 529s, IDAs, and other funds for things like homeownership and avoid the poverty and need for social programs that tax hawks are always griping about. The money we would save in administrative costs alone for those social programs would be well worth it!

Our focus should not be on making youth slave away in monotonous grueling jobs and pay their dues because we had to, just for the sake of it. The template that was used on us, is not proven to create a strong economy or increase homeownership, increase financial stability, or decrease poverty. Are we trying to haze youth or build a prosperous society? I would venture to say that our priority should be building a prosperous society while alleviating the tax burden. Therefore, we need to use a different template and that means especially paying the economically vulnerable a thriving wage if not "increasing wage".
