Wiping the sweat from some part of his body, Karas made his way to the ATM machine and withdrew his 500 Gis.
He couldn't help but smile as he made his way to the market.
Oh right, in this place, there are five levels, and he as part of the lower society lives at the 6th level, renting a room that costs a hundred Gis per month, it's a single room two-meter wide and four meters long, it's usually a place for useless people, those that are being underpaid, self-employed people living off of scraps.

For the 2nd level and 1st, they are the elites!
Every city has a minimum size of thirty kilometers squared, and the city Karas is living in is at a hundred, it's all due to the sheer size of the 6th level, they had been staying outside the 5th level, increasing every city's space.
Karas looked at these people filled with pity, because, at the time the attack happened, every city's defense all started with the 6th level, the 6th level was sacrificed to buy time for those at the 5th and above to form a proper defense line.
Those living at the 6th level that was government employees like himself were dragged inside for manpower, he survived his years being a dog; and when they were starting to lose food resources, they were the first ones to be discarded.

Karas walked back to his apartment to get changed before going to the market, it's quite crowded there, and he'd rather be looked down upon with how fat he is than be mocked by how stinky he smells like.
After an hour, Karas made his way out, he couldn't help but look at the people outside chattering with a warm smile.
"Karas, you look handsome today, where are you going?" An old man chuckled and laughed seeing Karas.
Karas hearing this looked at the old man: 'Right... this kind old man is alive too.'
He smiled at the old man: "Old Chong, still alive in kicking?"
"Oy! oy! Look here, it's rare to see you being able to move out of your room and here you are cursing people dead already?!" Old Chong smiled as he teased Karas back.
Less fortunate people understood each other, no one will backstab you so long as you treat each other well, well, that's the current relationship between Karas and Old Chong are.
Karas smiled: "I'm going to the market, you need something?"
Old Chong chuckled: "Oh, Karas is treating me today? Should I introduce you to my grand daughter? She's really pretty you know."
Karas smiled widely: "Really? I would appreciate it greatly, come come, introduce us!"
Old Chong rolled his eyes: "Shoo, I'm just being kind to say it, here you have a thick face to accept!"
Karas chuckled: "Of course, look at me, do you see anything that isn't thick?"

"........" Karas and the other neighbors couldn't help but be speechless, they couldn't possibly think of that reply if it were them.
Karas sighed: "Okay, okay, I can definitely not beat you."
He started walking: "How about cook some meat stew for me tonight? I got my allowance after all."
Old Chong chuckled: "Sure, just bring the ingredients over, we'll be having a feast!"
"What do you mean feast? I'm merely sharing half of the food to you!"
Old Chong laughed loudly hearing this: "That's right, but your half is different from normal people's half, it definitely is a feast! Hahah!"
"Hahaha!" Everyone started to laugh.
Karas smiled, it's a familiar sight, he always felt mad at Old Chong for making fun of him from his previous life, but after getting some experience, it's actually a good way to be friendly to your neighbors, even strangers would feel close to Old Chong.
He made his way to the market to do it, his plan! If it can really be done, then, he'll strike it rich! But he can't do it in one go, he needs to act a lot!
After a while, Karas managed to make it to the market, with his body size, no public transport would risk him riding their vehicle, who would? To risk having to get your vehicle repaired and cost no less than 100 Gis, or earn Karas's 5 Gis? Ha, not even a question!
As he made his way to the Rock District, he saw a lot of tables set up with different kinds of rocks, they are used for gambling, whether one has a gem or other good thing inside or not, it's up to one's own ability or luck!

10 Gis for 1 rock was written in a plaque on top of the store's table.
"You should've said so sooner!" The man took the ten gis and sat down again.
Karas started to browse the rocks one by one.

The man smiled and took one rock: "Look here, see the distinct feature? It has green stuff on it, so surely, there will be a gem inside, see?"
Karas nodded, took the rock and pretended to examine it.
The man had a smile that says: 'He took the bait!'

The old man chuckled: "But it also didn't say it's for free! Come on, you're getting a huge bargain here."
Karas rolled his eyes, he placed one more gis at the table.
The man smiled, took the gis, and started opening the rock.
But midway his cutting, he started to see red stuff inside, he stopped and smiled at Karas: "You know what, how about I return you the Gis? I may have mistaken it for something else."
Karas smiled: "No thanks, I still plan to buy a few more things, please continue."
The man groaned, he really wants to keep the stone now, but there are a lot of people looking their way, if he decided to back out now, he'll be treated as a scammer.
"Aight!" The man continued and soon, the red gem can be seen!
"Woah, look, that's a ruby?" One of the passersby spoke in awe.
"There's a red streak inside it, it must've been something different, I think it's a blood ruby!" One then added.
"Old man, cut it cleanly, there's a gem inside!" Karas instructed, if the gem was cut in half, the price will change as well, the bigger they are, the better!
And soon, a whole baby fist-sized gem came out!
The man handed the gem to Karas begrudgingly: "Here, your prize!"
Karas smiled: "Nice, thanks!"
Karas received the blood ruby and made his way out.
The store started to get swarmed by other customers as well, this made the old man not know whether to laugh or cry, at this point, he wanted to close the store and open all of the rocks as well, just obtaining one ruby will be great!
But that's a gamble, out of the fifty rocks he had, there might be none, he decided not to and sell them all instead.
Karas smiled and looked at the blood ruby on his hand and thought: 'Nice, cheating your way to earn money is the easiest!'
