My YouTube "Career" Why am I doing it?

Oct 20, 2021

Its still very early days in my YouTube "career". The channel has been up for two years now but only since the Pandemic of 2020 have I spent genuine time making videos and getting out on the trails with that purpose in mind. The image below is a view from Tent Ridge Horseshoe trail in Alberta, Canada. With 127 views gained since I posted it a year ago its gained the majority of views so far. I am under no illusions here, that's not very many, but I'm good with that. You can watch it here if you would like:

Everything takes time and some things will not pan out regardless of how much effort you focus towards it. I can tell you that I love moving my body, going over trails lights me up. It has surprised me just how much of a positive impact it has on my overall well being ( a vague concept for sure - one I will unpack in a future post). Being out there on trails experiencing the fun, the beauty, sometimes the shear difficulty of it made me realize that if others could also get a glimpse of what's out there, how it can improve mood, mobility, etc then maybe, just maybe it would encourage them to find a local trail (or maybe one of the ones I video) and give it a try. Trail details for this one can be found at All Trails : https://www.alltrails.com/trail/canada/alberta/tent-ridge-horseshoe

I am for sure a novice film maker, I learned quickly that its best to hold your camera in landscape not portrait orientation (currently I use an iPhone 7 or GoPro). When trying to trail run as in this film I can see how shaky the footage is and difficult for a viewer. Sorry but I had to make the above film to learn that so your going to have to bear with it. Future films now tend to have very little actual running instead limited to walking for movement shots. I now know to take longer on a pan as its different watching that pan motion on screen vs in real life, again this video has some of those issues. I learnt that each time you do it you have an opportunity to improve be it in making a film or running a trail or improving your food choices. Each step is a journey and I wander where they will take us next. All the best on your journeys and I hope you chose to stick around with me and share them together. Until next time.
