TOXIC FILIPINO PARENTING CULTURE
- A Cancer Warrior's Thoughts🌻👩‍🦲-

What happened yesterday was a clear manifestation of how TOXIC most Filipino parents are.

In the news were Popstar Sarah Geronimo and his now-husband Matteo Guidicelli with the special participation of Sarah's Mom - Mommy Divine.

According to reports, Matteo had to punch Sarah's close-in security aide because the latter  reported Sarah and Matteo's civil wedding rites to Mommy Divine. I commend and admire Matteo for fighting for his one true love. Never giving up despite the odds. Sarah is quite lucky to have a beau like Matteo.

As published on online entertainment websites Mommy Divine has never been cooperative with the wedding preparations of the powerhouse couple. When in fact, Matteo had expressed his genuine love for Sarah by asking her hand for marriage. All throughout Sarah's career Mommy Divine had meddled with all personal, financial, and business decisions. According to people close to Sarah, the popstar herself had never had an ATM card on her own not until recently she and Matteo were a couple. Matteo had given the songstress financial literacy and wisdom. Mommy Divine should consider herself lucky for having a son-in-law who knows how to handle financial matters and aspects.

Most Filipino parents have this negative attitude/culture in which they lay their financial obligations to the eldest child or to the son/daughter who is financially capable. This is TOXICITY at its finest. Passing the burden to your own child/children. A very selfish motive of parents to free themselves from the burden of the needs of the family.

Your child/children is/are not your MILKING COWS!
They are your sons/daughters.
Your child/chilren.
They aren't your SLAVES.
They aren't your PROPERTIES.
They are Human Beings.

It is your responsibility as a PARENT to provide the needs of your family/chilren.

The eldest child or the family provider often suffers a lot. Ends up being a "Matandang Dalaga" or "Matandang Binata" while the rest of the siblings have their own families and have enjoyed their own personal careers. The eldest child/family provider ends up fending for his/her own when he/she grows old.

Parents and younger siblings take advantage by asking even whims and caprices to the Milking Cow.

PARENTS please be responsible enough. Do not burden your child/children to be the provider of your family. Again, they are NOT your SLAVES.

I admire families who allow their children to spread their wings, support their passion, career, and interests in life. You are truly commendable and worthy of love and respect.

Once your child/children is/are of age please do allow them to grow, make a stand, and decide for themselves.

If your child/children is/are happy to support your family, be grateful.

If he/she wants to be independent wish him/her luck.

Being a good daughter/son shouldn't be measured with how much money your child/children brings to the family table.

It is not "UTANG NG LOOB" when you raise your child/children - it is your RESPONSIBILITY. So please, don't be entitled to ask them to provide the family's needs, to send the younger siblings to school, to ask for your whims and caprices.

DON'T BE A SELFISH, MANIPULATIVE, GREEDY parent just like Mommy Divine.

Sarah's assets including finances are all hers. She invested time, talent, passion all throughout her showbiz career. She has already worked hard enough for her family. She provided the needs of her family, sent her siblings to reputable schools, had bought real estate properties for her family. It is high time for her to be happy.

And besides she is already of age. She is now a full grown 31 year old woman. Who is fully aware of her decisions and emotions. She is not a teenager anymore.

Set her free Mommy Divine.

Filipino parents set your child/children free when the right time comes.

Allow them to grow and to be happy at the same time.

Do not allow yourself to become a TOXIC PARENT!!!
