Alba, a rougheye rockfish, loves collecting things from her environment. She loves gathering rocks, shells, pieces of coral and other marvels around her coral city. Her home is colorful, vibrant, appealing and fun. One day, Alba starts coming across stuff that she actually doesn’t want to collect. Those things appear to be making her fish friends sick. These things are not comfortable nor attractive. She doesn’t want to collect plastic. What happens after in the story is for you to discover! This book, written and marvellously illustrated by Lara Hawthorne, is inspired by a real fish! Yes, one rougheye rockfish who lived 205 years. This fish could only live because some people cared about her habitat and decided to help. Otherwise, she would have died in her not-anymore coral city. This book tells children they can actually take part in saving our oceans, and allows conversations about the importance of looking after these enormous forms of water that are, at the end of the day, the main engine of life on Earth.
