If you ever feel unease, anxious or inconsolable, I highly recommend that you have a look at the picture book Music For Mister Moon, written by Philip C. Stead and illustrated by Erin E. Stead. The story and art of this book is like listening to a very subtle violin while you watch the gentleness of the wind slightly move the dry leaves of an autumn tree. This is the story of a, apparently, gender fluid child called Harriet but that identifies better with Hack. This is a calm ride through Hack´s inner life and his/her struggles with performance anxiety and shyness. Hack, furthermore, loves playing the cello. Sadly, he is unable to find the perfect audience who does not cheer nor listen. He doesn’t want to play in a big orchestra, like his/her parents suggest. These anxious expectations of her musical performance lead Hack to a dreamlike reality where he/she finds just the audience that she/he needs: the moon.

Esta es la historia de un niñe que parece ser de género fluido. Su nombre es Harriet pero se identifica mejor con Hack. Este libro es como un paseo en calma por la mente de Hack y sus luchas con la ansiedad y la timidez. Además, Hack ama tocar el chelo. Tristemente, ha tenido éxito para encontrar la audiencia perfecta que no escuche y no aplauda. Hack no quiere tocar en una orquesta, como sus mapadres le sugirieron. Estas expectativas le llevan a sentirse ansiose por lo que más ama, la música. Esto le lleva a soñar despierte con una realidad donde puede encontrar esa audiencia que tanto ha anhelado: la luna.
