Setting Goals & Sticking to them

Setting Goals & Sticking to them

Dec 26, 2022

It is that time of year where we start setting goals for things, we want to achive in the coming year. I like saying setting goals because to me it just sounds better than resolutions. The first thing to consider when setting goals is, is this something you want? Let's face it setting a goal to impress someone else or make someone else happy is twice hard to stay motivated for as working towards something you want. For example, one of my goals for this coming year is to get in shape and lose 50 pounds. When I decided to set this goal, I asked myself why I wanted to lose the weight and get in shape? Was I doing this because other people thought I needed to or because I wanted to? I actually want to; I know I will feel better physically and mentally if I lose the weight and get a little more toned. The next step in goal setting is your why? Again, I will use my weight loss and fitness goal as an example. My why for wanting to lose the weight, I want to improve my health and feel better. I also want to feel more confident when I am performing and wearing pinup style clothes. I want to have more energy to play with my little one, and I know losing the weight and improving my health will improve my chances at getting pregnant. Knowing and connecting to my why makes it easier to commit to the changes I need to make. Now add feeling to the goal, for example I am going to feel amazing when I reach my weight loss goal! I will feel more confident when performing, and I will feel mor energetic during my day. Next comes visualizing what you want when you achive the goal, so I take time picturing myself wearing outfits, on stage and in the wrestling ring. I see myself moving through moves in both burlesque and wrestling matches. I am going to make a vision board just for this goal! Then you make a full goal statement combining everything! Mine for this weight loss goal is I am going to lose 50 pounds and get in better shape by April 27th, 2023. I am going to do this by working out daily and replacing soda with water and eating healthy foods! It will feel so good to have more energy and feel better about how I look! I will have more energy to play with my little one and to train for wrestling and burlesque by making these changes.

Once you have your goal statement make an action plan! My action plan is to replace soda with water, workout daily for at least 20 minutes, and eat healthy foods. And since my goal time frame is about 16 weeks, I am breaking it down, for 16 weeks to lose 50 pounds, means I need to lose 3.12 pounds each week. That is measurable and doable. Then of course come up with a way to celebrate each of your wins! When I lose my first 4 pounds, I am going to treat myself to a spa day, and after I hit 10-pound weight loss I am buying myself new workout clothes! This helps stay motivated and focused. You can use this formula with any goal! I have financial goals and career goals for the coming year!
