Wondering about... therapeutic choices

Wondering about... therapeutic choices

Apr 28, 2023

Sometimes, we adults don't realise what's good for us. We're figure out life as an adult (when we become one), we have kids, and we start to teach them good, healthy ways to live. Which, for many of us, the irony is not lost!

This entry is me telling you about some choices that I've made recently that are 100% for my own mental health.

Firstly, I've realised this last season of life has been too busy for me to function well. I'm outliving choices that I had made previously, but it looks like I need to say 'stop, I've made a mistake'. And that's ok. Sometimes, ploughing on for the sake of pride can be the worst decision. So, I'm now just waiting for the next season of summer being a much more peaceful one.

Secondly, I have chosen to pursue further assessment into difficulties I've had with learning. I know it may seem like a lot of millennials are going looking for labels and descriptions to help define them and the way they act, but in my case, I've had the same 'difficulties' for my whole life - discovered at age 5 when I started school, and since enrolling in university, it has been rediscovered. So, let's wait and see where that one goes.

Lastly, for emotional wellbeing - the secret letter. Maybe this goes by a different name, but I've started writing letters to certain people in my life who have caused harm in some form or another. I've found that if I'm struggling to forgive someone for something, and speaking to them is just not a good idea (yet), then the secret letter can be the best way to express your true, unfiltered feelings in words. The best part is... they'll never read it! Write the letter, be as brutally honest as you can be, then delete it. If it will help, ask a trusted friend if you can send it to them, so you get the feeling of having sent it, but no harm is done. Your friend and you can both just delete it, and never mention it again (unless you both agree it would be helpful).

Just an idea.
