Wondering about… transition.

Wondering about… transition.

Jun 10, 2022

It's funny how as a parent, you just get used to change. You get used to it happeneing, because it always will. Your kids will grow. They will get older, they get bigger, they eat more, argue with you more, and they grow in their own experiences.

I learned a lesson a number if years ago about the difference between change and transition. Things in life change; that's out of our control. Transition, however, is a choice of attitude.

Now, before this gets too philosophical or like I'm teaching you something, I'd just like to point out that my youngest, our baby boy, our last child will be turning 5 in August, the same week he starts Primary School. Hence my mind wandering towards things changing and how we transition with them. B is currently finishing up nursery, and he's had a number of opportunities to transition into school (visits, lunches etc), all things his big sister didn't get - thanks pandemic!

Honestly, as much as it's a bit daunting for him, moving into school, starting his journey in formal education; it's exciting. It didn't ever dawn on me like this with our other two kids. But it is now. Maybe it's because I've been more involved in his care pre-nursery and preschool.

Hey, I'm not complaining. This is just another thing in life to add into the "Jeez, if I think about that too much I'll make myself anxious" pile. So, if I'm to set an example of an attitude for transition, that's what he'll see in me. Let's do this. School, here he comes.

Bur first, summer holidays!
