Relax

Dec 13, 2021

If you think that you need to cut down on sleep to have time for everything during the day, then read on. And when you are in the middle of reading, instead of throwing stones at me, read on.

When was the last time you could sleep as much as your body or mind needed? I mean as much as it truly needed. I slept 20 hours within 48 hours during the weekend. So lazy! Still, I was more productive than I am sometimes during normal business hours, when I give it my all and I work properly. I finished work around midday on Friday and set up the next out of office message: „It is snowing and I am out building a snowman…” And with this I locked the gate into my world for a couple of days. Not everyone appreciated my strange sense of humour but I can live with that. On Saturday and Sunday too I got out of bed around 10am but if there is anyone around who makes me breakfast and lunch, then rest assured, I stay there longer.

During the remaining time that I spent awake, I submitted invoices and I sent out emails chasing missing payments which I always receive, only some people need more convincing than others to pay. I have also sent out my application to a couple of places I would like to work for. My applications were quite unorthodox so I can’t wait to see how flexible the recipients are. I finished reading a book about Cuba which I am becoming more and more interested in, this was the forth book I read about the country one after the other. Then I finished a module of an English course I am doing with Teacher Tom. Whatever stage you are at your English language learning journey, it is worth to pay attention to this guy. I have also attended a Yoga workshop with Isabell, which I have signed up to months ago. I met Isabell in around 2010 in the UK, and when she started offering more online courses during the pandemic, I re-connected with her. Either you are based in London so you can visit her classes in person, or you are comfortable with online classes, I can highly recommend contacting her. She is one of those rare individuals who genuinely care and she is not involved in the hype that the West created around yoga.

Oh, I almost forgot the cake! The cake was a must this weekend so I went to a cafe I recently discovered and spent a little time there on Saturday afternoon. By the time I was done with all this, it was Sunday evening, when I made a simple dinner and settled down to watch the Songlines Music Awards 2021 Ceremony. Everything was pre-recorded this year and the whole ceremony lasted only an hour but it was still interesting to learn about artists I have never heard of before. I didn’t agree with the jury’s decision in all categories but my musical taste is not really supported by any relevant expertise. I was happy to see though that Khusugtun won the Asia and Pacific category. They are a Mongolian group and I have seen them live on stage a few times both in Mongolia and the UK. Their magic is palpable live, but you are in for a treat even through recordings. At the end came the announcement that Omara Portuondo won the World Pioneer award. She is someone I probably don’t have to introduce. I have seen her on stage once (yes, I am bragging now), when she performed in Hungary together with the pianist Roberto Fonseca. The way these two people communicate through music and gestures is out of this world. I continued with listening some more music so by the end of the weekend I was as happy as a lark. Not only I managed to calm my mind enough to function properly again but a huge backlog is gone which makes it possible to take the following days easy too. Despite sleeping 20 hours within 48 hours.

I am fully aware of various situations that don’t allow you to spend days in bed or do other relaxing activities but if you have found your way to this platform, it suggests that you are in a position when you are able to make independent decisions and introduce smaller adjustments for your own health. I also know that aspirations differ and certain jobs and roles require a very different approach. In no way I feel entitled to give advice to anyone, I am a mess in the majority of the cases and I fail more often than I succeed, but thanks to the immense number of my attempts, I know that magic happens at times with a little help from your part.
