Rainy Day Travels

Mar 23, 2021

Today, I will take rainy day travels. I will take exhausting long train journey travels or 3 hours spent at the airport doing nothing travels. I will take walking for miles and my feet feeling tired travels. I will take sleeping in a cheap airbnb travels. I will take any travels at this point.

Who would have thought that we will get to a point in our lives where we will be yearning for packing our bags (which has always been the one thing I hate about travel, I don't mind the waiting or sitting around). Who would have thought that we will be confined to our home or our local area for so long? Who would have thought that we will actually begin to start actually seeing what's around us for the first time?

There is a ray of hope out there somewhere. Unfortunately, I can't spring my wings for months yet and can only satisfy my craving for travel within this country. But, that's okay. It will make that next international travel even more sweeter; the airport queues will be (somewhat) welcomed. The uncomfortable airport chairs will give me comfort that I am about to take off for an adventure. The camera will be charged up and eager to come out of my bag. I can already picture my favourite place to sit in the airport with nothing but rows of dark blue chairs in front and behind me. Nothing but a window to the left of me, from floor to ceiling.

For now, I have to snap out of it and see what I can experience around me instead. The airports, the passports, the queues will have to wait. Just a bit longer.

For now, I can enjoy my rainy day travels here. Watch the people, find the little odd cafes and street corners. Hide from the rain under a shop roof. I hope you can find some joy in seeing what's around you, too. I know it's not easy and I know many of us aren't only in need of a getaway; many of us haven't seen our families in far too long. Many of us haven't been home far too long.

I hope my rainy day musings can give you a reminder that you are resilient enough to last a little longer. I know it's not easy but we can do it.
