If only the park could feel

If only the park could feel

May 05, 2021

You see the shadows
staring at you from
underneath rotting
bushes in the park.

They taunt you with
memories of when
this park was your
place of safety; home.

You recall the dogs
that you would see,
their owners deeply
immersed in conversation.

It seemed like the
nights would tear your
feelings and morph
them into your nightmares.

Anxiety runs wild,
like a deer escaping its
predator deep within
the forest grove.

Only when the sun comes
out and nestles itself
above the horizon,
do you finally gain hope.

Another night has passed
and you remain okay,
just like this park that
you used to call home.

If only
it could feel
the same.
