Sorry for the lack of comic updates lately, but as luck would have it I'm getting ready for my first solo art show in 6 weeks, where I'll be selling paintings, a few hand-made garments, and this oracle deck. (Maybe half-pans of prepared casein paint too, but we'll see.)
I've been working on v.1 of the Braided Oracle for several years, which included a couple years of working with a printed deck on regular playing card stock. I got a LOT of really great readings out of it, but a few of the cards clearly needed tweaking. As well, I made the decision to print them with a real risograph, instead of just making them look like riso. I've had to completely re-make all of the original art, but that's just as well because they're stronger and more cohesive now.
Because of the nature of riso, which makes use of a color separation process, it's hard to capture what the finished pieces will look like since the files are all grayscale. So above is my basic color guide to about half the cards (making sure I had a sensible split between red, blue, and black), a few colorized versions of individual cards, and the official color mixing reference chart provided by my printer. When finished, they'll be beautifully textured too!
While these will be functional decks made to be used, they're also art objects, printed on uncoated stock. I will recommend readers to wash and thoroughly dry their hands before handling the cards, and they will come in a reading cloth instead of a box.
I'm offering 30% off the deck for BMAC members! I haven't quite settled on a price just yet, but I'm ballparking about $60CAD. This is because I will be hand-printing all the backs as well with a different method to prevent color rubbing off on the fronts of the cards.
