The Pearl Thief

The Pearl Thief

Nov 05, 2020

One of the things that Greg "Craola" Simkins and i talked about in this week's episode of the show, was the point in his career when he realized that he wanted to devote his craft to building the world that his work has lived in for years. Greg shared that it all started with this painting, "The Pearl Thief", commissioned by a friend and collector of his, and which was the largest piece he'd ever made at that point (8' x 6'). The Pearl Thief tells the story of a character who comes into our world to steal the dreams of children (which take the form of pearls). This was the first time Greg really dove deep into this new world of his, which he calls "The Outside", and explored the richness of its potential. Ever since then, his works have contributed to the larger narrative of this world, building a lore all his own.
