Update on the TIDRadio H8 - Still, Do Not Buy

Oct 19, 2022

After my last post, TIDRadio decided to send me another radio. The transmit works ok on this one. No squeal across the air. However, shortly after receiving it I realized the up/down arrow keys were inversely programmed and I was doing everything backwards... then I got an Instagram message from them:

Some of the H8 problems have been solved, and the rest will continue to be optimized.

1. Up and down key problem (firmware package has been resolved)

2. The microphone radio effect is too small (the factory has been contacted for adjustment)

3. odmaster unavailability problem (bug caused by recent update, odmaster team fixed it yesterday)

4. The problem of excessive collection of user information by odmaster (I will contact the odmaster team to let them reduce unnecessary information filling and give users a better experience)

5. The frequency window size problem in the frequency writing software (I have contacted the technical department for optimization and H8 will support chirp write frequency)

6. The frequency window of the frequency writing software cannot be scrolled (I have contacted the technical department for optimization)

7. Add the option of adjusting the sensitivity of the walkie-talkie microphone in the frequency writing software (the volume of the new batch of H8 has been adjusted, I will ask the technical department if it can be achieved)

8. Write frequency software to report Trojan virus (I have reported it, the technical department will check the problem)

9. About on UHF / Low power - the power output (The technical department will solve this problem through firmware upgrade)

10.FCC problems will be solved, it will take about 6 weeks.

If you have any questions about H8, please give me feedback and I will report it to the company to optimize the product.

Thank you for the information. We work hard in making great products and always looking to improve.

The first batch of H8 will have many problems, but most of them have been solved.

Many issues will be resolved with firmware upgrades.

Hope you can understand that the new product does have many problems. We will continue to optimize and develop products.

The Odmaster app doesn't seem to be as big of a security problem on the iOS, which is what I'm using. But since it can't operate at the scale mentioned above, I think it causes the app to chronically crash during use.

Dealing with the FCC assignment/registration: As far as anyone can tell, searching the FCC database is fruitless. The radio FCC ID is a fake. How I arrived at this? A regular database search using the search tool yields nothing. Searching the manufacturer by using the assigned 2AWL3 in the Grantee Code box of your search and nothing else arrives at everything they have registered. The TD-H8 is not among them.

(there are 53 products they have registered, this list is just 10 of them)

I am going to share Ham Radio Dude's Video while I make my own on the subject which will likely be court and terse (HRD clarifies some of the wording in the letter above).

I am annoyed with these radio companies not taking time to refine their product (in the least) and releasing a more or less useless product into the US market. They have some great ideas and some fun radios. But...

What can you and I do about this? We can stop buying Chinese radios until they get their act together and do it right. For the people I have been in contact with at TIDRadio about the H8, I have to say they seem to be trying. They volunteer information and share issues that are being discovered. My gripe is probably with the sales manager pushing to get the product out the door.
