If you are thinking about launching a blog or a website, congratulations! Blogging is a very rewarding profession, and if you’ve decided to make a living out of it, you need to have a blog.
I’m making a few assumptions here:
You want to launch a blog that is self-hosted and you want to use GoDaddy to do so.
You’re starting your journey to professional blogging (blogging to make money).
You’ve never purchased a domain name or hosting before.
Requirements
A GoDaddy Account
A Credit Card/ Debit Card or Net Banking
Time Needed: 10 minutes
Level of Experience: Novice
To launch your blog you will need
Buy A Domain Name (5 minutes)
Buy Hosting (5 minutes)
Buy Your Domain
Head over to GoDaddy
You’ll see their homepage, locate this search bar on the top-left of the page.
Now, type in the domain name you want to purchase
In case your preferred domain name is already taken, choose from the ones that are available, or try for another domain name.
After selecting the domain name you want, click the add to cart button with the cart icon on the right, it's the green button.
Then click continue, since you’re only buying a domain right now, you don’t have to select anything and just click continue, make sure any of the upsell offers are unchecked.
Just right beside your domain name, you’ll see a number of years you want to buy it for. So choose that according to your wish. (Remember: You get the heaviest discount if you’re a first time buyer. So go for at least 2 years at once.)
Then you might want to check in private registration if you don’t want just about anyone to be able to see your information (I take this one, always).
Note: Private registration is not available for .IN domains
Lastly, just click Proceed to Checkout and follow through and complete the transactions.
And you’re done. Now let’s get our hosting. (Remember not to log out at this point.)
How to purchase hosting from GoDaddy
Find “Hosting” in the menu on the website
Click on “Hosting” and you should see drop-down menu with options
Now go ahead and choose "Web Hosting" or "WordPress Hosting", these are ideal for starting your blog.
Choose a plan according to your budget, and click "Buy Now".
This will make a cart slide in from the right and you can continue with the checkout process, I usually get the 3 years option for the hosting as it gives the most amount of savings, but you can choose according to your budget.
Hint: leave the upsell offers unchecked.
Congratulations you’ve now bought yourself both a domain name and hosting from GoDaddy!
All that’s left now is to one-click install a CMS system in your cPanel and you’ll be good to go!
Note: CMS (Content Management System) such as WordPress.
