Escapism: Surreal Minimalist Interior

Escapism: Surreal Minimalist Interior

Oct 27, 2022

Project Escapism was inspired by Sixnfive and Sébastien Baert. Both have outstanding work, Sixnfive has collaborated with brands such as Samsung, Burberry and Microsoft while Sébastien is a multidisciplinary designer with great storytelling and compelling Designs.

Minimal yet Challenging:

It was great working on this project but, the workflow required a unique approach to figuring out aspects such as;

  • Curtain - How can Lighting go through the fabric?

  • Generating Landscapes and Waterbody

  • Physics simulation in Unreal's Sequencer (Curtain movement)

How did I approach this project?

Every project begins with inspiration, so with the help of Pinterest, I got references based on surreal Interior Environments and used Pureref to gather selected images as seen above.

Before importing to Unreal Engine, we prepared our file and ensured Uv Unwrapping (Lightmaps) and Face Orientation were properly set up.

Unreal Engine: Generating Landscape and Waterbody

Waterbody:

Setting up the ocean and adjusting wave attributes to ensure subtle water patterns

Landscape: Island

Determining the size of our landscape as we apply sand material

Curtain: Physics simulation

Using Blueprints as we test curtain wind simulation

Final Touches:

Setting up cameras and tweaking the scene to capture great angles
