Hello All, as always, I hope this post finds you and your family well.
Well, there's not much to talk about this time, but knowing me I'll still ramble on about stuff.
I have been tinkering again with the design, partly because I enjoy stuff like this and partly because I was never really happy with the old one. I haven't migrated the new design to all the pages yet, but I plan to do that over the coming week or so. It's not hard work but I have to be careful I don't break things.
The new design is much more bold than the last one and better in responsive situations too. There's no "hamburger" menu as with 99% of responsive websites nowadays as I have chosen to use a simple list format. In addition, There are almost no images used. I wanted a mostly text site to make it load really quickly and be easy to use. I fully appreciate that images can make using a site better but I feel that people will use the site to mostly find information about my videos or other projects, so keeping them on the site is NOT its main function.
I have decided to retire the video filter and move to playlist lists, but that is still a work in progress, so nothing to see yet. It definitely doesn't look as good or as cool, but I have never been sure how much the filter was used anyway, and the new way will save me time and effort.
Anyway, let me know what you think. Oh, I almost forgot, there is a Light and Dark toggle switch to make it easier to sue at night. Try it out.
As I am sure you noticed, I haven't added any new videos lately besides the weekly questions. My home situation has changed, making it much harder to record sofa and other views. I hope to start again very soon.
I've been using social media more than ever during this lockdown period and recently created a Bithive and Pinterest accounts. Both are linked to on the index page of BetterSquash.
I can't tell you how much time I have wasted/spent on changes the design of the thumbnails. I found a site that didn't use any text on the thumbnails and loved that idea. However, I couldn't find a good way to do the same with my videos. The channel I saw obviously spent quite a bit of time thinking and planning each thumbnail. I will continue to work on them until I find something I love. I considered using the same approach as the website; white background and red or black bold text, but images really do help people select your videos.
NEW TYPES OF VIDEOS
I am considering starting a sort of Vlog; just a weekly non-scripted ramble about squash related topics. I probably won't do it, but how knows, maybe I will change my mind. What I do plan to start is the "Pop Psych Squash" series. This will be a series of videos about popular psychological concepts that can be applied to squash. Nothing in depth or detailed, just some musing on things. I hope to release the first one in the first week of June.
ACTUAL SQUASH VIDEOS
Yes, I do know that 99.99% of my viewers want actual squash videos, but as I am sure you can understand that's just not possible at the moment. I promise to start making those the moment my local sports centre opens its doors.
PHEW, another post finished. Please feel free to let me know what you think and be all means share your thoughts on anything related to squash!
See you in two weeks!
