The photo social networking platform known as Instagram has come up by leaps and bounds. From 1 million users in 2 months after its launch to 800 million monthly users as shown by a recent survey; its growth has been nothing short of phenomenal. It has become a place not just for social networking but also a place for business. Good business, in fact.

“Business, you say?”

Oh yes, indeed.

Before starting, there some things which may need addressing. The first step is by completing all aspects of your Instagram profile.

A good profile picture goes a long way. Believe me. It does.

Next, start following a targeted audience. Most of them will follow you back. Keep your followers happy with regular posts and updates, because they are the ones who are going to help you earn money in the long run.

“There. That’s taken care of."

So, where to begin?

1. Ask support from your Fans

If you have a lot of fans on Instagram, then it’s pretty easy to earn money. Sites like BuyMeACoffee or Patreon allow interested users to support creators they love. You begin by creating a profile on the site which enables others to view your work. If they like what they can see, they can support you through donations.

You can use your Instagram for this purpose as well. For example, if you create a page on BuyMeACoffee and place its link on your Instagram profile, you can let your fans know that they can support you.

2. Become an Influencer

A few years ago, the people whose work had the most significant influence or impact on others, used to be celebrities. With the advent of social media, however, people with unique content have started to make an impact on their followers.

They are known as influencers. And a lot of them are on Instagram.

Several brands are seizing the opportunity to make deals with influencers with large followings, to showcase their products. Which makes sense.

You can also list yourself on influencer marketplaces like Grapevine and Shoutcart to make sure you are discovered. However, make sure that that you deal with established brands, which already have a dedicated following.

3. Affiliate Marketing

An affiliate is more invested in making sales for a partner brand in exchange for a commission.

As an affiliate marketer, you have to drive traffic to your site using as many communication channels as possible. Instagram is one of the best if you consider the millions of potential customers. There is a ton of opportunity.

At the moment, Instagram does not allow links other than in the bio, which limits the number of products which can be shown. A more profitable method would be using promo codes in Instagram posts.

There are several online marketplaces like JVZoo and ClickBank, where you can seek out popular online merchants.

4. Sell your Products

Got something to sell? All manner of products, be it physical goods or digital items, as well as services, can be advertised on Instagram. To do so, you must build up a target audience which may be interested in buying your product.

Which means you can also….

5. Sell your Photos

Give a man a camera, and he thinks he is a photographer. I’m not making fun of anyone, just trying to prove a point. I think the same way too, by the way.

If you think that you can click a decent picture, you may want to consider licencing your best Instagram pictures so that they can be sold as stock images, as well as made into other types of merchandise like smartphone or laptop covers.

You might want to check out some services like Foap and Twenty20, which pay you for using your Instagram pictures.

6. Sell your Instagram account

Got a popular account? Check.

Lots of followers? Yep.

Then would you be interested in selling it?

That’s right, if you have a popular account, there will be no shortage of online merchants and brands willing to buy it. For a very generous sum, I might add.

Remember, these are but a few of the options that are available for you to mint money using your Instagram account. So go ahead, and make hay while the proverbial sun shines.

“Great! Now, let’s take a selfie.”
