The first postnatal session...

The first postnatal session...

Jun 16, 2020

It was great to run my first postnatal Zoom session for mums last week. I had six women all with babies around the six to eight week mark. We were able to talk through what to expect in the coming weeks and months and outline what is normal behaviour for this age. By asking questions about their own situation, the women were able to share experiences and learn from each other. I told them more about the science behind how their baby behaves and why.

There are a set of four sessions coming up - starting on Wednesday 24th at 1000 if anyone would be interested. These sessions will be 90 minutes long – half an hour longer than the original allocated time – as the women who were involved in the first one fed back that they would have liked it to be longer.

The topics will be set by those who join and anything goes! The sessions are designed for those who have already established breastfeeding and are looking for more information. If you need more specific support with any issues, I also offer one to one Zoom sessions privately as a one hour slot, much like some of my colleagues. These give you more time to explore your issues and are available to women anywhere who wish to book them. Remember, mums who have given birth in the Hampshire Hospitals area can access free, thirty minute, one to one Zoom sessions via the Hampshire Breastfeeding Facebook page.

Feeling that women would benefit from hearing that others were going through similar experiences, and then finding that this came through in the feedback, showed that this first class was a success!

And the feedback....

"It was great hearing other problems or snags others were having and also knowing that I'm not alone in the issues. Group discussions are great as it gives everyone a chance to throw in their problems and opinions."

"Definitely discussing what issues could crop up later down the line was a good topic as it gives us that prior knowledge of what could happen and how to resolve it."

"I found it really useful and felt the size of the group worked really well."

"I liked that there were more people so you could hear about other questions and answers as that might then help if it happens."
