Bolivar Peninsula, TX 10-18

Jan 20, 2021

We had looked for a while for a place to camp on the beach.  We found a place called Bolivar Peninsula near Galveston, TX.  For $10 a year you can buy a pass that allows you to drive on the beach and camp there as well.

We drove all night and pulled onto the beach at sunrise.  We went back and bought our pass.  We went back and setup our Oztent as far back against the berm as possible and set back for a few days of relaxation.

The week was amazing.  The weater was good.  Several others came and camped beside us and Arkansas Terry.  Hispanics came, fished and played music well into the night as they cooked all of their catch (and left all of their mess for us to clean up).  Some college students came and setup their tent beside us.  I had to help them and loan them some tools.  Later that evening as they tried to start a fire with gasoline, they caught their tent on fire and had to sleep in the truck.  They helped us out by running to town and grabbing us some water since Bruiser had consumed all of our water by this time.  We learned the hard lesson of having all of your camp attached to your primary mode of transportation.  It was at this moment we talked long and hard about getting a trailer.

The last day we could sense a storm was moving in.  The wind was extremely high this day and the water had come all the way up to the front tires of the FJ during the night.  We packed our stuff up and headed back toward home.  Along the peninsula the water crashed against the barriers sending the water up and over the FJ.  Hearing there was a hurricane moving into the Gulf, we were glad we were getting the heck out of Dodge.
