Creating More Free Cantonese Learning Resources for the Community 💪

Aug 16, 2022

Holiday is fun time for kids and for us parents, it's time to be creative about sourcing activities for them. With that in mind, I have made two online short quizzes for your kiddos. The quizzes are completely free. They are available until 30 Aug (CEST) and you don't need to sign up to any account to play.

Why Quizzes?

I have always wanted to introduce additional materials to go with BunFun's videos in order to create a more cohesive learning experience for children. The question is what's that going to be?

Reflecting on what BunFun wants to achieve through the videos, I want to make something that is easily accessible, fun and interactive. I also studied the channel analytics on YouTube Dashboard (yes I'm a data nerd) to better understand BunFun's audience. Interestingly, most views come from Taiwan and more and more viewers are watching with Traditional Chinese subtitles. The idea of making online quizzes emerged.

I started researching existing quiz building platforms and was pleasantly surprised by the abundance of them. And after trying out a few of those, I chose Quizizz to build my quizzes as the free tier already offers a highly configurable builder. It doesn't require the player to log-in or create an account.

There are however, limitations to the free tier. I cannot for example share the quiz without putting an end date to it. I also cannot put sound to the quiz which is not ideal for the purpose of language learning. Both of these features, and more question types are only available in the paid version of the platform.

Would you like to help BunFun grow and build more free resources for the community?

I'm very keen to subscribe to the paid tier and create more learning materials that I can put online for everyone for an unlimited time. I also have other content ideas (one ambitious example being a theatre show live stream) that would require more time and financial investment.

For as little as the price for a cup of coffee (£3), you can choose to support BunFun monthly as a supporter, or to send us a one-time donation (coffee). Your donation would be crucial to bring these ideas to life.

You can also support BunFun by subscripting to our channel and sharing it to your friends and family. Also free feel to leave a message here to let me know what you think about BunFun's materials. Any insight would be highly appreciated and useful for BunFun's growth.

In the meantime, the weekly video will continue to be published as usual and I will continue to explore more ways to create materials that help parents to teach Cantonese. I cannot be more excited about it and I hope to bring you with more updates soon.

Cheers,

Mandy
